Smartthings Station Hub

Samsung has officially announced the latest Smart Home, MATTER-supported hub, Smartthings Station.

The demand for easy-to-use, reliable, and interoperable solutions to connect a larger number of devices in the expanding smart home market is increasing. SmartThings Station by Samsung offers a quick setup process and compatibility with various smart home products, including Matter devices, to meet this need. With SmartThings Station, homeowners can automate various aspects of their home, such as setting routines to turn off lights and appliances, adding convenience to their daily routine and helping to conserve energy.

Having a smarter home shouldn’t be complicated or expensive. So we wanted to create SmartThings Station as a simple, reliable and expandable smart home hub,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “The number of devices in a connected home continues to grow, especially in light of the recent Matter standard launch. We’re proud to play a role in making it easier to embrace this exciting technology.

Samsung Press Release

Transform Your Home into a Smart Home with little effort

Setting up Samsung’s new SmartThings Station is pretty simple. When you first turn on the device, a pop-up message will appear on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone ( I’m biased, but these are the best phones, just sayin’) to guide you through the connection process. You can also add devices easily by scanning a QR code with your camera. That’s the funny-looking black-and-white square image for all you weirdos who don’t know what a QR code is.

Fits into Your Daily Routine

SmartThings Station is a smart home hub that allows multiple devices, such as thermostats, lighting, and power outlets, to seamlessly connect and work together to create a cohesive environment. With the SmartThings Station, you can easily automate routines set up through the SmartThings mobile app without having to manually control each device.

By pressing the integrated button on the SmartThings Station, you can activate a routine from the SmartThings app. For example, pressing the button before bed could trigger a sleep routine that turns off the lights, closes the blinds, and lowers the temperature on your nifty smart thermostat. Or, if you want to have a movie night, a routine could turn on the TV and dim the lights. When you leave your home, the SmartThings Station can turn off power outlets and appliances to save energy and activate a security system. You can even create a gaming routine that adjusts specific TV and lighting settings and puts your phone in “Do Not Disturb” mode. THe possibilities are endless.

You can trigger up to three different routines with the Smart Button by pressing it briefly, holding it down, or double pressing it. You can also activate routines through the SmartThings app whether you’re at home or away.

Easily Locate and Manage Your Devices Around the House

SmartThings Station is also integrated with SmartThings Find, a popular asset-tracking service. If you misplace a device, you can double press the Smart Button on the SmartThings Station to make your nearby phone ring, making it easier to locate. I lose my damn phone all the time, so this will be helpful to have as another option. This is a feature that will be hugely popular, especially with me.

As an always-on device scanner, SmartThings Station helps Samsung Galaxy users keep track of the locations of their registered devices, including smartphones, tablets, watches, earbuds, and personal items like keys or a wallet with a Galaxy SmartTag or SmartTag+ attached. By regularly scanning for devices, SmartThings Station will tell you the location of connected smart devices or tags around your home and send an alert to your smartphone when a tag or device leaves or returns home. This is a win-win for tech enthusiasts who lose shit all the time.

A Smart Home-Friendly Charging Pad with Quick Charging Capabilities

The SmartThings Station is a powerful charging pad that supports up to 15W of wireless charging for your mobile devices. The fast charging capabilities make it a convenient addition to any smart home, as it fits seamlessly into your daily routine. You can even set an alert to let you know when charging is complete, so you can pick up where you left off or switch to charging another device. Pretty slick.

When is the SmartThings Station Available To Buy?

Samsung said that the new SmartThings Station will release in the United States sometime in February 2023 with a starting price of $59 bucks. If you want the USB-C attachment, the price will jump to $79 bucks. (Not sure if 20 bucks is really worth it for a stupid USB attachment or not. We will see) This is a great deal for this product as it is the best-priced MATTER and Thread hub that will be available. Right now, I am still using the SmartThings hub v2, so this new Station product will be a welcomed upgrade.
